Word Love for K-5 RUOS

Jessica L

Teacher, Indiana

The kids LOVE the activities. Our vocabulary block has easily become one of the most exciting parts of the day. Our team appreciates the variety in the activities and how they ask students to apply their understanding of the words!

We just want to let you know that Word Love has been exactly what our team needed. Not only are our students learning so much about vocabulary, but our team of teachers feels that we have learned so much about vocabulary instruction. Thank you!

Mary C.

Coach, Michigan

One of our elementary schools had used these materials for two years. Their vocabulary scores were significantly higher than the other building. Now-both buildings are using the materials. Thank you for filling a need.

I did have a 4th grade teacher come up to me today and show me one of your vocab words in the student's fiction writing. Bam! That made my day.

Natalie H.

Curriculum supervisor, Pennsylvania

We are having so much fun and the students are learning so much.

I've been impressed with the depth in which students understand these words.

Madelyn W.

Teacher, Pennsylvania

I am so thankful for this curriculum and I feel like, for the first time, I am teaching vocabulary in a way that is authentic to the texts that I am teaching.

Word Love Morphology

Sarah C.

Teacher, Oman

My class absolutely loved it!

Here are some quotes from my 3rd-grade students regarding how they liked the unit.

It's fun!

Good, and let's keep doing it!

It's healthy for our brains.

It's good to learn it and it's better for you than watching.

It gets stuck in our brains

Learning about prefixes and suffixes adds more words to your vocabulary.

I can figure out the meanings of words.

We are excited to teach unit 2.

Cori J.

Teacher, New York

For my students who are below grade level, the lessons are great to build vocabulary and to add to their toolbox to determine unknown words independently. All of my students benefited greatly from the suffix lessons. They didn't understand how adding these suffixes changes the root word. These lessons are important, and you have designed manageable "bite-sized" lessons that hold students' attention. Thank you!

The students loved Word Love Morphology - short and clear and fun!

They laughed throughout!

It inspired us to look at other prefixes when we saw them in a book.

It worked well and it was really good practice!

The kids had so many good conversations!

They transferred their learning easily.

The games are always a winner!

A teacher next door was watching and was so impressed with the energy.

The students felt very successful

We want more—thank you so much for this!

I am wrapping up teaching the Word Love Morphology with my students, and I wanted to say "thank you!" This has been such a powerful resource. Teaching spelling and word meaning is always a challenge in 4th grade - when do we find the time and what do we focus on? This resource helped with both of those things. The lessons were so quick and easy to teach, the students were engaged, and they got us thinking about word parts and word meaning. The more we covered morphology lessons, the more alert students were to finding words with prefixes and suffixes in their own reading and writing.

Over the past several years you have been so generous with your resources around vocabulary and words. I know it is impacting my students and the students on my campus. I love that our students are regularly talking about words. My own child is in 3rd grade and will often try to impress me at home with using vocabulary words he is learning! I think in the past I made a lot of assumptions about words students already know, and through your work I have been more intentional in teaching word meanings and talking about words throughout our day.

This was a great first morphology unit, and I'm looking forward to continuing with Unit 2. The students really enjoyed the work and demonstrated mastery and application. Thank you for all your hard work!

Word Love Character Vocabulary K-5

Therese K.

2nd grade, Massachusetts

This was a fantastic unit and I appreciate the opportunity. It is exactly what we need to help build our vocabulary and word power. It is interactive, engaging, motivating, and captivates every child. Thank you!

Cassie E.

2nd grade teacher, Wisconsin

I noticed children using these words in their daily talk as well as at lunch time with peers.

I love how quick these games are and they were so engaging for students. The fact that after five minutes of practice in a day the children were already using this vocabulary was amazing to see. Absolutely love Word Love and will continue to implement it into my day.

This is a great way to teach vocabulary in a meaningful way!

My students really did enjoy learning vocabulary words. My MLLL students were particularly engaged with all of the activities!

Rachel G.

1st grade teacher, Massachusetts

These words were well-chosen for 1st grade. The Word Workouts were engaging and quick to use in the classroom.

I liked the visuals. I kept them up for the five days of vocab activities and beyond!

I thought the fairytales and folktales were well chosen and fit beautifully into our curriculum. They were great references for the vocabulary words.

I am definitely teaching Word Love! I found the kids using these words outside of the lessons and I was able to easily integrate them into other conversations as well.

Well done. Thank you!!!
